Chibi Devi is a very simple show by its nature of episodes being 5 minutes long. Honoka is a 14 year old girl who is taken advantage of and unable to stand up for herself when she is thrust upon her the responsibility of taking care of Mao-chan who is a newborn devil. Reluctant to be responsible for a child when she cannot take care of herself she inquires the aid of her crush but instead gets saddled with his friend Shin who while capable is harsh and imposing. Honoka finds aid in a local nusery specific to devil children overseen by the caretakers teacher and the director and Mao makes new friends with other devil children Rai and Karin, with all this help Honoka still inquires that a new mother be found for Mao and in the months time the daycare searches for candidate Shin and Honoka undertake being the Mama and Papa learning to help eachother and coming to enjoy their newfound relationships with both eachother and their devil child.
The plots are simple insert topic for the characters to deal with between daycare and home like working together doing chores sharing toys and the like. The relationship between Honoka and Shin is nice but never evolves beyond their eventual fondness to being Mao's caretakers though they do admit to having deepened their affections for eachother as the show goes on. The other Mama's are nothing to note as they exist to contrast their devil kids and add little beyond that, neither one having a "Papa" but ones Brother and anothers Butler being assists to them makes it closer to sisterly age gap than Moms and Kids unlike Honoka who while aside from being a young mom at 14 acts a little more suitable for the role.
The format of this show is cute toddler antics, gag manga humour and bits. Nothing much to chew on but nothing distasteful either. The worst part of this show is it being 75 episodes at 5 minutes a piece. Even doubling up the amount of time episodes had would make the runtimes feel less pointless as you don't get enough entertainment to watch the show through and once you got your fill you pretty much saw the entire show anyways thanks to the lack of evolution beyond the kids becoming able to walk and talk but that only adds 1 layer of difference between 30 episodes and again does not give enough merit to going through the entire show.
I have a love hate relationship with short animes that they either are unenjoyably short or would have made better as full 20 minute episodes, very few strike a good balance. If you enjoy slice of life that deals with toddlers and want a little more to chew on I'd recommend Gakuen Babysitters.
Chibi Devi is a show better enjoyed as compilations on YouTube than as it is here but it isn't a bad time.
