I guess it's finally time to make a review about Mushoku Tensei. The jobless reincarnation, one of my favorites of all time, and has familiarized me with how valuable who and what I am. (This may involve spoilers!) Mushoku Tensei follows the story of a 34-year-old Japanese NEET (not in education, employment, or training) who dies trying to save a group of teenagers and is reborn as Rudeus Greyrat in a fantasy world with all his memories intact. Unlike most isekais which become comedies due to the main character being vastly overpowered compared to the rest of the characters, Mushoku Tensei puts meaning behind Rudeus Greyrat’s newfound powers. This man is someone that has given up, thinking all is lost, jobless, and jealous of all the surrounding people that haven't experienced what he has. Slowly watching the people attempting to save his life start to fade, all of them, simply completing this task, of saving a man's life, but what drives them to do this? Are they influenced by money? Are they that caring? But alas, it's human's nature for greed.

Mushoku Tensei explores these questions through its main character. Since Rudeus Greyrat is born with his memories intact, he has a significant advantage in life. Imagine a newborn who already knows how to read, write, and do math and also has a plan to try and succeed in life. On top of all these advantages, Rudeus Greyrat was born into a well-off family and inherited natural talents for things like magic. They never did care about him, the fat man that he is, the hopeless fool that he is, without realizing what he has gone through. This is an isekai, I must repeat myself, renamed as Rudeus Grayrat, a boy transported to another place, a fantasy world. Mushoku Tensei is about a boy, named Rudeus Grayrat, someone else from another world, who keeps his memories, and struggles throughout this anime, of his previous self, reminded at each and every pityful glance in his direction.

Having more money, better looks, or more intellect will not solve all our problems. They’ll solve a couple of issues which will then put us in a position to solve different problems. In his previous life, Rudeus Greyrat was bullied for being fat and unskilled. In his new life, he’s much better looking and quickly became one of the most skilled mages in his world, but now everyone expects him to do more — often beyond what he’s actually capable of. The same things happen to us in real life. When we have no money, it seems like money will solve all our problems. And when we do get money, we’re faced with different issues that we previously did not have. This never-ending list of problems is what makes us human.

Rudeus Grayrat continues his journey of life, meeting many others. This anime never does include a transition of one place to another, but instead a slow journey of Rudeus, battling against the condemned struggles that are cast upon him. Constantly reminded of the man he once was, a mournful man, wishing to banish his virginity, Rudeus continues, and continues.

This anime has never made me turn in disgust, as I have enjoyed every moment of the series. Rudeus Grayrat, a boy, condemned with struggles, factors of sorrow and regret, all etched into his personality, is a complicated character. The other characters in this anime are very complicated and dedicated to what they are, each having their own personality, bringing out so many points and edges to how they're like. It has a unique approach to story telling, with it's relations and explorations to family, trauma, growth, and change, each making a name for themselves. It's so complicated, his story. The protagonist is still human, someone affected by so many factors, each pushing and pressurizing all the wrong points of Rudeus, as he isn't perfect, but someone that has wished, and wished, finally thinking he's gotten another shot at life. With each and every character in play, the reactions and emotions are so realistic despite the setting of a fantasy.

This is a masterpiece. This anime coerces the spectator to realize the incorrect and inaccurate ways of society today. This anime is too good not to talk about. There are so many gut-wrenching moments where we get frustrated and think, “You should have done this instead.” But these moments are gut-wrenching because we know we would have made the same mistake if we were in their shoes. Too many of us assume so much despite knowing so little. If we could just understand and respect that most of us are misunderstood, our world would be just a tad bit kinder.

On the surface, Mushoku Tensei looks like a normal isekai, fantasy anime with an overpowered main character fighting monsters with magic. But as you watch the anime, you’re exposed to phenomenal storytelling that makes you think about life. Almost nothing makes me think and ponder as deeply as Mushoku Tensei does. This is one of my favorite animes of all time due to its philosophical nature, as it exceeds the normal exeeds the expectations of the spectator. It's a good anime. 😁
