What would have otherwise been a rather decent reboot, with good animation and an okay-ish overall arc, is brought down by the characters themselves. Having grown up with the original Digimon series (English dub) when it aired in 1999, I was very much displeased that there was nothing done to add any new or different ideas to the human cast. There wasn't even much depth outside of perhaps a few scenes, and even those couldn't compare with the original (Angewomon's debut being especially "meh").

One could argue that this 2020 reboot shouldn't be judged through the lens of the 1999 original, and I would agree with that... but it's so clear that Toei wasn't really aiming for bringing in a new audience. They simply took the original cast, transplanted them in today's world, and just assumed that you already know all the characters' backgrounds. From there, all that really happens in Digimon Adventure 2020 is a series of events with the 1999 crew.

Disappointing.
